FA Cup: Leyton Orient 1-2 Malton & Tiptree highlights

Maldon & Tiptree knocked League Two side Leyton Orient out of the FA Cup as the non-league minnows reached the second round for the first time in their history, despite ending with 10 men.

After Orient spurned several chances to take the lead, the visitors went ahead just before the break after Charlee Hughes advanced forward and fed Danny Parish, who sent a smart finish past Sam Sargeant.

The hosts were caught on the break once again midway through the second half as Jorome Slew ran from the edge of his own box to fire in from just outside the Orient area.

The O’s pulled one back straight away as James Dayton lobbed Jammers keeper Ben McNamara following a knock-down from Matt Harrold.

Isthmian Division One outfit Maldon & Tiptree went down to 10 men when Parish received a second yellow card for simulation, and McNamara pulled off crucial late saves from Harrold and James Alabi in the closing stages as they hung on for the win.

Maldon & Tiptree began their FA Cup campaign in the preliminary round against Saffron Walden Town on 24 August, but the Essex club have enjoyed a fine season and recorded their 20th win from 21 games in all competitions at the Breyer Group Stadium.

Parish had already seen a long-range shot tipped over the bar by Sargeant before netting his 17th goal of the season, which he marked by running the length of the field to celebrate in front of the travelling fans.

Slew had an effort ruled out after the break, with Stephane Ngamvoulou offside in the build-up, but the striker got on the scoresheet with a fine solo effort as he advanced forward under little pressure from the home defence.

Orient have now failed to win in five matches in all competitions under new boss Carl Fletcher and last reached the second round of the FA Cup in 2015-16.
